10Gigabit Ethernet

Recent developments in the next generation of high bandwidth networking has produced a draft standard to implement 10 Gigabit Ethernet over copper cabling ( 10G Base T ). Originally envisaged as a purely fibre optic technology for the Server Room, 10 Gigabit bandwidth will be delivered on Cat6 Shielded cooper cable, potentially to the desk. Further updates will be given as this standard develops - expected to be ratified 2005/2006
