Case Study at Halfords -
Retail / Warehouse Project
Working as Cabling Partner, Interconnect worked in partnership with LXE, the wireless terminal specialist, to deliver a new wireless Distribution Centre System for Halfords UK.
The main design requirement was to provide a robust and resilient backbone for the business critical network, with Shielded Cat5E horizontal cabling to the wireless access points and the printer terminals within the two warehouses.
Diversely routed 50/125 micron OM2 fibre optic cables were installed between the two main Comms rooms and the remote Comms cabinets, effectively producing the classic "dual homed" topology for the network. A multi core fibre cable was installed between the two main Comms rooms to provide the resilient path between the two "core " locations and to allow diverse placement of critical servers and applications.
Shielded Cat5E was the chosen cable type for the horizontal cabling, due to the HV motors for the conveyor systems, lighting and general warehouse environment that the cables were to be routed in. All functional earthing was provided by the Halfords on-site maintenance teams, under the specifications provided by Interconnect.
High-level access platforms were required throughout the installation that took place between the hours of 1800 and 0400. All health and safety requirements were met, and the installation was completed without incident.
Security was another priority due to the value and type of stock in the warehouse, and Halfords UK were happy to give interconnect the required approval due to the conduct and quality of the management team and engineers involved.
